FAQs
How old do you have to be to participate?
Blue Fins Swim Team is open to swimmers 6 to 18 years old. (5 year olds are eligible if they meet the ability level below).
Although each age group is assigned a head coach, all coaches will be on hand for every practice.
What ability level does my child need to be in order to join?
To be on the team, your swimmer should be able to swim safely in the water if not directly supervised. Many beginning Blue Fins are not able to swim the entire length of the pool yet, but they should be able to swim in a forward motion and get to the rope or wall as needed, or float on their back to rest. Most young swimmers will achieve the goal of swimming the length of the pool by the end of the season!
If your child is not at this ability level yet, please see the Guppies option below (our "learn to swim" program for ages 3-5).
How much does it cost to be on the team?
- Forest Park residents - $195 per swimmer, $175 for each additional family member
- Non-Forest Park residents - $225 per swimmer, $215 each additional family member
How often do team members need to practice?
It is recommended that each swimmer attend at least three (3) practices per week.
Are swimmers required to attend every meet?
We encourage participation in meets, but understand this isn’t always possible. You will have the opportunity each week to indicate participation in the meet, and your child’s preference for events.
When does the season start this year? When are the meets?
See the Meets & Events tab for important dates.
How can I purchase a team suit for my swimmer?
You have options for purchasing used suits, and new suits (plus other Blue Fins gear!). We ask that all swimmers wear a Blue Fins suit during Meets. Check out our Team Store to shop!
What are Guppies?
Guppies is a “learn to swim” program for our young swimmers, age 3-5. They get instruction time in the water with qualified swim coaches Monday-Thursday (typically through June), and are official members of the Blue Fins family!
- Resident Guppies - $150 per swimmer, $130 for each additional Guppy
- Non-Resident Guppies - $150 per swimmer, $140 for each additional Guppy
