Volunteer Requirements

Volunteer Sign-inThe Forest Park Blue Fins Swim Team operation and success is dependent upon extensive parent volunteer participation throughout the season.

All families are required to fulfill three volunteer shifts (or 3 volunteer points). Exempt positions are roles last all season and may require work outside of regular swim meet hours. An exempt role fulfills all volunteer commitments for the associated family.

During registration we collect a credit card authorization of $225 ($75/credit) per family. Credit cards will be charged $75/for each volunteer credit not completed.

  • Saturday (regular season) Meets: Minimum of 3 shifts per family/per season (Maximum of 2 shifts per meet). Each shift at a meet is worth 1 volunteer point. (Families must fulfill at least 3 volunteer points per season)
  • Prelims/Finals Meets: If your swimmer participates in Prelims/Finals, the expectation is that you will volunteer for a shift. Volunteer positions for Prelims/Finals are set by the league, and we must fulfill our spots! As soon as you decide to participate in Prelims (or have made it to Finals), please sign up for a volunteer position. The Parent Reps and Volunteer Coordinator will provide the volunteer schedule as soon as possible (usually by the start of the season).

You will be required to sign up for volunteer positions when you register online each spring.

If you are unable to fill your assigned position please arrange a trade with another family. All schedule changes and trades need to be arranged and communicated to the Volunteer Coordinator prior to the day of the meet.

Guppy Only Families: If you only have Guppy swimmers (no regular team swimmers), you will be exempt from volunteer requirements. If your Guppy moves up to be a regular team swimmer during the season, we will ask that your family participates in volunteer requirements.

Check In at Meets

When you arrive at the meet, it is important that you check in with the Volunteer Coordinator at the volunteer station to pick up your nametag which lists your job and time shift for the meet. By checking in early, we will know that all positions have been filled and, more importantly, we will be able to start the meet on schedule.

If you are volunteering for the first shift of the day, it is important that you are at your position at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the meet. First shift volunteers cannot leave until they are replaced with a second shift volunteer.
