Blue Fins (and Guppies!) Updates and News
Greetings, Blue Fins! The weather is finally reminding us that summer is just around the corner!
Here are a few key updates and reminders to be aware of:
Guppies Registration Opening EARLY!
By popular demand, we are opening registration for Guppies early! Registration will open this coming Monday, April 15 @ 5:00pm. Here are a few registration steps you’ll need to be aware of:
- If you are a Guppy-Only Parent (i.e. you don’t have a regular team swimmer), please select “Guppy Volunteer” in the volunteer section. As a Guppy-only parent you do not have volunteer requirements, and this will help you bypass the normal requirements.
- Forest Park Residents use the discount code: GUPPY1. Non-residents use the discount code: GUPPY2. If you are also registering sibling Guppies, please contact me (Sarah) for a sibling discount code.
- A couple other notes: Guppies do not need team swim suits. Guppies will only practice Monday-Thursday during the month of June (June 3 to June 27). Guppies are honorary members of the Blue Fins and will be invited to social activities, end-of-year celebration, etc.
Let’s Get More Blue Fins!
We are excited that our registration is moving along, but we want MORE Blue Fins! Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors, and let’s make this the best season yet!
We need a Volunteer Coordinator!
We need YOU! We are looking for an organized individual to serve as Volunteer Coordinator this year. This “exempt” position will fulfill your volunteer requirements for the season, and we’ll provide as much training and experience from former coordinators as possible. Our team and meets cannot run without volunteers, and you can help make this happen! Please contact us for details if you are interested.
Swim Suits and Gear
Don’t forget! Team Suits/Gear purchases are due by April 21 for guaranteed arrival prior to the first meet. Check out the Blue Fins Gear Shop now to purchase! (Try on suits at Out of Breath Sports, 311 E County Line Rd SUITE A6, Littleton, CO 80122).
Used Suit Donation & Sale: If you’re interested in a used suit (or have a gently used one to donate!) contact Heather McInally at [email protected] or (720) 323-1269. Suits are sold at a discount price and all proceeds go back to the Blue Fins.
Stroke Judge Training
Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far to be a Stroke Judge. Don’t forget judges receive $30 off registration, and we still need more!
Training for Stroke Judges is outlined here on the league’s website: https://rmsl.swimtopia.com/training-clinics. Here are the highlights:
- NEW judges need to attend the in-person training (May 5, 10am-12pm @ Pier Point Pool, Aurora) and fulfill a one-shift shadowing (we are actively working on putting together multiple options for shadowing before the season begins, so stay tuned!
- ALL judges must complete the online training portion (watch the videos and complete the online quiz). Instructions on the website above provide details on submitting a screen-shot confirmation to the league.
This may sound like a lot, but trust us that the training will be helpful and judging really is FUN! The goal of training is to maintain consistency across league judges, make sure that swimmers are constructively learning from their mistakes, and that swimmers learn/improve during the regular season and aren’t caught by surprise during Prelims/Finals of a technique error.
Please consider joining as a Stroke Judge! I’d love to make our community of judges grow in numbers, which helps in sharing the load and also sharing ideas/skills with each other.
Looking forward to a fun summer!
