Swim Meet Details - June 1
I know this is a lot of info, but please read through all of these details so you are well-prepared heading into Saturday:
- This Saturday we welcome the South Park Dolphins to our pool! Let’s give them a warm Blue Fins welcome.
- Meet program (your swimmer's events) will be available on the Swimtopia app, sometime Friday. I’ll also try and email it out, around Friday evening. Bring your own copy, or the app.
- Bring a sharpie to write your swimmer’s events on their arm, leg, hand, wherever they can read it. Ask an older swimmer (i.e. Big Fish) -they can show you!
- Bring extra towels, sunscreen, and extra goggles.
- Bring a sweatshirt or blanket - it’s chilly in the morning!
- Please wear only Blue Fins caps during the meet.
- Are you volunteering? - Check emails that have reminded you of your volunteer shifts, or check the Swimtopia app.
- Set-Up: Blue Fins can set up tents, blankets, chairs, etc. in the grass to the West and South of the pool. (North end is for Heating and the visiting team). No seating on the deck.
- Warm-Ups: 6:45 for Blue Fins! This is highly recommended for all swimmers to be at warm ups so that coaches can verify who is there.
- Volunteer Check-In by 7:45 at the table near concessions, even if you’re not volunteering until 2nd shift. Pick up your name tag too.
- Stroke Judge meeting at 7:35 (at the Green Awning)
- Timer Meeting at 7:45 (at the Green Awning)
- Heating begins at 7:50 for first events (relays)
- We will perform the National Anthem at 7:55 so we can promptly start at 8:00!
- Food and Beverage: CASH ONLY! We have a concessions stand that will have all you need so please support it and the team. They will have things like breakfast burritos, pizza, nachos, donuts, soda, gatorade, etc. Don’t forget- we are CASH ONLY.
- Pay attention to the Event Number/Heating sign to the left of the green awning (starter tent). The app is cool - but doesn’t always stay up-to-date with which events are in the heating area or on the blocks.
- Cheer as loud as you can for your swimmer(s). The popular place is at the end of the lane. Typically can get a little crowded; if your swimmer is up, just inform people they will move so you get the best seat in the house.
- Do not approach a Stroke Judge if you feel your child was wrongfully DQ'd, these are volunteers and if you think your child was incorrectly DQ'd find a coach or Parent Rep. ONLY a parent rep can take a dispute to the starter/referee. But also remember, this is a rec league and the Stroke Judges are doing the best they can. Stroke Judges complete hours of training and are parents themselves - so please go easy on them!
- SPORTSMANSHIP: This goes for both parents and swimmers. Let’s demonstrate to our kids (and the visiting team) the Blue Fins spirit of sportsmanship. Swimmers- shake hands with your opponents and congratulate them!
- Smoking is not permitted in the pool area. Please exit the pool area (League Rule)
- No Alcohol is permitted (League Rule again)
If you are new: Feel free to find a Parent-Rep, Coach/Jr. Coach, or an experienced parent for help... this is organized chaos!
Go Blue Fins!
