Swim Meet Details - June 22
June 21st
Hello again, Blue Fins!
Here are meet details for our home meet this Saturday. This weekend we welcome the Green Oaks Gators! Let’s give them a great Blue Fins welcome.
Please read through all details below so you are well-prepared!
- Athlete Schedule and Heat Sheets are now available, attached here and also available on the website under this Saturday’s calendar event. The app is being a bit wacky, so make sure to check the schedule or heat sheet for accurate info. (NOTE: Remember to check to see if your swimmer has been assigned to a relay!)
- Tattoos! If you have a Blue Fins tattoo, stick it on tonight to let it dry before tomorrow’s meet. (If you still want to buy tattoos, find Becca Martin either Friday evening or Saturday at the meet! They will also be available through the end of the season).
- MORE Snow Cones! This week we welcome SnoCo, a snow cone truck run by a former Green Oaks swimmer. He’ll start selling at 11:00am, and donate 5% of sales back to the Blue Fins.
- Bring a sharpie to write your swimmer’s events on their arm, leg, hand, wherever they can read it.
- Bring extra towels, sunscreen, and extra goggles.
- Bring a sweatshirt or blanket to warm up after warm ups.
- Please wear only Blue Fins caps during the meet. (Need a cap? Come find me and I'll grab you one!)
- Are you volunteering? - Check emails that have reminded you of your volunteer shifts, or check the Swimtopia app. Volunteer Check-In by 7:45 at the table near concessions, even if you’re not volunteering until 2nd shift. Pick up your name tag too.
- Set-Up: Blue Fins can set up tents, blankets, chairs, etc. in the grass to the West and South of the pool. (North end is for Heating and the visiting team). No seating on the deck.
- Warm-Ups: 6:45 for Blue Fins! This is highly recommended for all swimmers to be at warm ups so that coaches can verify who is there.
- Stroke Judge meeting at 7:35 (at the Green Awning)
- Timer Meeting at 7:45 (at the Green Awning)
- Heating begins at 7:50 for first events (relays)
- We will perform the National Anthem at 7:55 so we can promptly start at 8:00! (Young kids who asked me about holding flags this week - meet me at the south side of the pool by 7:50! I have 8-9 flags)
- Food and Beverage: CASH ONLY! We have a concessions stand that will have all you need so please support it and the team. They will have things like breakfast burritos, pizza, nachos, donuts, soda, gatorade, etc. Don’t forget- CASH ONLY.
- Pay attention to the Event Number/Heating sign to the left of the green awning (starter tent). The app is cool - but doesn’t always stay up-to-date with which events are in the heating area or on the blocks.
- Cheer as loud as you can for your swimmer(s). The popular place is at the end of the lane. Typically can get a little crowded; if your swimmer is up, just inform people and they will move so you get the best seat in the house.
- Do not approach a Stroke Judge or Timer if you have a dispute. You may only raise a dispute with a Coach or Parent Rep. ONLY a Parent Rep can take a dispute to the starter/referee. But also remember, this is a rec league and everyone is doing the best they can.
- SPORTSMANSHIP: This goes for both parents and swimmers. Let’s demonstrate to our kids (and the visiting team) the Blue Fins spirit of sportsmanship. Swimmers- shake hands with your opponents and congratulate them!
- No Smoking in the pool area.
- No Alcohol is permitted during team events.
If this is your first meet: Feel free to find a Parent-Rep, Coach/Jr. Coach, or an experienced parent for help... it is organized chaos, but we love it!
Go Blue Fins! Have FUN!
